Seeking NP or PA for Established Hepatology Clinic in Hampton Roads

The team at the Bon Secours Liver Institute of Hampton Roads is seeking a dynamic Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their well established and busy program based at Maryview Medical Center in Hampton Roads, Virginia. The practice cares for patients with all types of acute and chronic liver disease including chronic HCV, HBV, Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFL and NASH), autoimmune liver diseases. Approximately , 40% of the patients have cirrhosis and are monitored and treated for complications of cirrhosis on a regular basis. The treatment of patients with liver cancer with embolic therapy, surgery and various chemo and immune therapies is managed and directed by the liver team. Patients in need of liver transplant and patients who have had a liver transplant are managed during the pre-transplant waiting period and long term after the transplant in collaboration with our Liver Transplant Program partners. The office has 2 Fibroscans utilized to assess fatty liver and the severity of liver disease.

The focus of the position is out-patient office management of patients with liver disease. Participation in the care of hospitalized patients is possible once the successful applicant has gained sufficient experience in managing liver disease and its complications. Experience as a gastroenterology provider would be helpful but not necessary. It is expected that most candidates will require several months of training in liver disease before they could care for patients independently.

The Bon Secours Liver Institute of Hampton Roads, a part of the Bon Secours Health System of Virginia, opened for patient care in April 2010. Dr. Mitchell Shiffman and his associates are now providing medical care for patients with all forms of acute and chronic liver disease. This includes treatment for all forms of chronic viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, liver cirrhosis and its complications, and hepatocellular carcinoma. They also provide care before and following liver transplantation eliminating the need for patients to travel long distances for care at various liver transplant centers.
