Position Summary
Join an established thoracic surgery program at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, where you will work alongside an experienced surgeon with a strong referral network and the opportunity to develop a practice aligned with your clinical interests and expertise.
The position includes the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the lungs, esophagus, mediastinum, trachea, pleura, and chest wall. Physicians collaborate closely with specialists in oncology, pulmonology, radiology, and critical care, including participation in weekly multidisciplinary tumor boards.
Surgeons have access to Da Vinci robotic technology and advanced imaging resources, supporting a wide range of minimally invasive and complex thoracic surgical procedures.
Practice Details
- Call Schedule: 1:4 shared rotation
- Clinic Volume: ~30 patients per clinic day
- Patient Population: 80% adult | 20% geriatric
- Patient Sources: Emergency department and physician referrals
Call responsibilities include ED consults, cross coverage, inpatient consults, trauma support, and general surgical coverage, with most call serving as backup for the acute care surgery team.
Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery
- Eligible for Virginia medical licensure
- 10+ years of clinical experience preferred
- Experience with minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques
- Commitment to high-quality, collaborative patient care
