Position: Medical Director- Kidney Transplant Program

Location: Toledo, Ohio

Overview:

Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH), the largest health system in Ohio with a strong presence in the Toledo market, is seeking a dedicated visionary and dynamic Medical Director for its new kidney transplant program. This represents a unique opportunity in a rapidly growing market for which BSMH has committed significant resources to build kidney transplant program.

The Medical Director (OPTN Primary Physician) for the Kidney Transplant Program will be responsible for all aspects of the medical care of ESRD patients referred for transplant and their post-transplant medical care. In close partnership with the Abdominal Transplant Program Director and Transplant Administrator, this leader will spend considerable time building relationships with the nephrology community in Central/Northern Ohio and beyond.

Responsibilities:
  1. Outpatient Clinic: Provide comprehensive care in an ambulatory clinic setting, focusing on nephrology and transplantation.
  2. Call Coverage: Participate in nephrology group and transplantation call as agreed upon with the group.
  3. Resident Teaching and Clinics: Engage in teaching and mentoring residents, while also participating in clinic activities.
  4. Physician Collaboration: Build and maintain professional relationships with in-network and out-of-network physicians. Collaborate with NCH nephrology to support pediatric kidney and transplantation needs.
  5. Inpatient Rounding: Provide inpatient care and rounding as required.

Qualifications:

  • Board certified or eligible in nephrology
  • Completion of an AST accredited transplant nephrology fellowship or equivalent training in transplant nephrology
  • Qualify as Primary Kidney Transplant Physician under OPTN Bylaws
  • Five years of post-fellowship experience in transplant nephrology in a leadership role preferred
  • Qualify for unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Ohio


Special Skills and Experience:
  • Proven ability to manage a full range of nephrology services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Experience in or aptitude for working within a team-oriented, patient-centered care model.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with a diverse range of healthcare professionals.
  • Kidney transplant program start-up or significant growth experience preferred
