Mercy Health is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Neurosurgery team in Toledo, Ohio. This is an opportunity for a PA who enjoys being in the operating room, values teamwork, and wants to be part of a collaborative neuroscience program where your work has a meaningful impact on patients and the physicians you support.

The Opportunity

This is a full-time, primarily inpatient position with a strong surgical focus. You will work alongside our neurosurgeons as a first assist on both cranial and spine cases while also supporting the care of elective neurosurgery patients.

The position is predominantly Monday through Friday, with hours varying based on surgical start times and rounding needs. Weekend flexibility may be needed, with opportunities for additional shifts.

Your role will include:

  • First assisting neurosurgeons in the operating room
  • Patient positioning and surgical preparation
  • Opening and closing cases
  • Assisting throughout cranial and spine procedures
  • Entering postoperative orders
  • Completing postoperative checks
  • Inpatient rounding on elective neurosurgery patients as volumes require

Our team typically performs 2–3 neurosurgical cases per day, providing the opportunity to remain actively involved in the OR and build strong working relationships with our surgeons and clinical team.

A Team Built Around Collaboration

You’ll join a patient-centered Neurosurgery team that is part of a broader, highly collaborative Neuroscience program encompassing Neurology, Endovascular/Stroke, and Neurocritical Care.

Our physicians and APPs work closely together, and mentorship is available from our neurosurgeons. You’ll also have the support of the St. Vincent operating room team, comprehensive imaging and laboratory services, physical therapy, case management, neurocritical care, and Comprehensive Stroke Center resources.

For those who enjoy education, our neuroscience program also offers opportunities to engage with residents and participate in educational programming and grand rounds.

What We’re Looking For

  • Certified Physician Assistant
  • Ability to obtain an Ohio medical professional license
  • Ability to obtain appropriate prescriptive authority/DEA registration
  • A collaborative, patient-centered approach to care
  • Interest in a hands-on surgical role within neurosurgery
